Memorial Day Frozen Cocktail Treat

Voli Light Vodkas

With temperatures reaching into the 90’s this weekend in Atlanta for Memorial Day, nothing is better than a refreshing cocktail! How about a  refreshing cocktail popsicle?!? This grown-up version of a childhood favorite can cool down even the hottest of days, while being a low-calorie indulgence. The most important part of a cocktail popsicle is the low-calorie vodka to include in your treat.

Voli Vodka is 5X distilled low-calorie vodka.  It has 40% fewer calories than the other leading vodkas and is infused with electrolytes. That means, for those of us who like to have a delicious cocktail or frozen treat, Voli is the sensible way to not consume empty calories.

Each recipe makes 2 popsicles.

Slim Berry POP
1 1/2 oz Voli Lyte (73)
12 blueberries (6)
5 Raspberries (6)
4 Strawberries (6)
2 1/2 oz Master of Mixers Sweet and Sour Lite (6.25)
1 oz water (0)
Muddle blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries in a tin.  Add Voli, Sweet and Sour, water and shake.  Pour into 2 Popsicle containers.
Total calories = 97.25
Each popsicle has 48.6 calories

Strawberry POP
1 1/2 oz Voli Lyte (73)
3 oz Master of Mixers Sweet and Sour Lite (7.5)
3 oz Master of Mixers Strawberry Mixer (12)
1 oz water (0)
In a mixing tin, add all ingredients shake and pour into 2 popsicle containers.
Total calories = 92.5
Each popsicle has 46.25 calories

Basically you can make any of their drinks "POPS" if you only use 1.5 oz of Voli per 2 pop containers.

Aromas of French Press Coffee

Nutty, earthy, acidity, full-bodied!  Nothing beats a fresh brewed pot of Community Coffee paired with Crepe Revolution's French Press style!

Crepe Revolution, located in Smyrna, GA at the West Village hosted their first Community Coffee Tasting Event on Saturday, May 19th.  Dennis Zarneke, Territory Sales Manager for Community Coffee led our tasting and teachings! Dennis and Neel Sengupta, owner of Crepe Revolution started their friendship over 20 years ago (their wives met in college & were sorority sisters!)

Mexican: Mexican Altura Coffee -- high quality, light nutty flavor and well balanced
*paired with a baked crepe cup filled with wild mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and a poached egg, fresh thyme hollandaise and maple glazed bacon

Colombia: Colombia Toledo-Labateca -- delicate, shade-grown in the fertile volcanic soil where the cool air of the Andes Mountains intersect with the hot humidity from the lower savannas.

Kona: The only coffee grown in the 1 mile wide by 30 mile long Kona Coffee district can call itself Kona Coffee. Delicious, smooth and bright!
*paired with creme anglaise with fresh berries

Sumatra: Indonesian coffee grown in an area of Sumatra near the Indian Ocean.  Slightly earthy flavors and tastes of pronounced herbal nuances.

French Roast: Ideal for those into a more European-style, dark roasted coffee. Intense rich aromas.  Community Coffee's darkest and most flavorful blend.
*paired best with dessert: beignet served over bananas foster

A few interesting facts:

  • French Press: let steep for only 2 minutes
  • Crepe Revolution uses Community Coffee's Signature Blend Dark Roast (a 100% Arabica coffee made with the top 10% of beans)
  • light roast coffee contains more caffeine than dark roast beans
  • French Press is the ideal way to brew coffee
  • A coffee machine under $50.00 is a waste of your time! Search for a multiple drip function on a coffee machine for maximum flavor (Bunn Coffee makes a great machine)
  • Ideal water temperature for brewing coffee is between 195-205 degrees
  • keep whole beans/ground coffee away from light (enclosed canisters)
  • do not keep coffee in freezer ( the moisture when taken out of freezer as it hits the air will compromise the bean)
  • use coffee grinds for compost, plants, soil enhancers and pest deterrents
