Local Caribbean Cafe to Open "Upscale Lounge"

Chef Rob Gayle

The grand opening of Chef Rob Gayle's Upscale Lounge will present foodies throughout the city of Atlanta a unique lounge experience January 2013.  Based in Sandy Springs, "The Lounge" is an expansion to Chef Rob's restaurant "Chef Rob's Caribbean Cafe" that will allow an outlet to his diners: music, jazz, assorted tapas, cocktails, top-shelf choices, signature wine selections. "It's a 'kick back' atmosphere," says Gayle.

A huge New York Yankees, Knicks and Brooklyn Mets fan, born in Jamaica, West Indies, Gayle moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was 11 years old.  At age 13, he moved to Long Island and worked at "Matthew's Seafood House" as a line cook on the east end of Ocean Beach on Fire Island. "Learning came easy to me. I asked a lot of questions," Gayle says. "After High School, my counselor asked me 'what would you like to do with your life' and I took a chance and got an Associates in culinary arts at the Culinary Institute of America."

In July 2006, Gayle opened "Chef Rob's Caribbean Cafe" and has managed 6 years of success as a restauranteur. His skills and prestige allowed him to assist with the openings of P. Diddy's "Justin's Restaurant" in both Atlanta and New York.

"My older sister inspired me to cook! I want to produce high quality Caribbean food that will 'stick to your ribs' and give you that experience of dining on great food. I am passionate about my craft," says Gayle. Chef Gayle has a wide variety of foodie followers that include Usher, Bobby Valentino, Jennifer Lopez, a few of the Housewives of Atlanta and more!

From what we hear from Chef Rob, the braised beef ox tail and black and mango salsa are a must-have on the menu and gaining in popularity amongst his diners.

In addition to opening his Atlanta-based restaurant, the Chef Rob brand has also extended to offer a varied selection of signature sauces, intimate cooking classes, and event catering options.

The Lounge & Cafe are located at:
5920 Roswell Rd Ste 117, Sandy Springs

If you have wine connoisseurs on your holiday gift list, give them elegant wine-inspired gifts. You don't have to spend a lot of money to put together a thoughtful gift basket. If you are on a limited budget, present a friend, family member or coworker with a bottle of wine in a decorative bag. Complement wine bottles with gourmet treats or essential accessories.
Experience wine at the perfect temperature every time. Keeping your wines at just the right drinking temperatures—it’s a great dilemma. Too cold and it could mask the vintner’s uniquely crafted complexities. Too warm and the flavors may take a back seat to the alcohol. features OFFICIAL wine, martini and pilsner glasses designed by Tracy Lolita Healy. Not only are Lolita® 's wine glasses individually stunning, but their quality and style have also made them instant collectibles. While people rave about the designs themselves, they are equally appreciative of the special twist Lolita® gives them - a recipe written on the bottom of each glass. With the wide variety of designs and glassware available - martinis, wine, mojitos, and now margaritas and pilsners! - you're sure to find the perfect one.
Vinturi, a sleek and elegant wine accessory that speeds up the aeration process with ease and convenience, has become the modern standard for enhancing the wine
experience. Vinturi allows wine to breathe in the time it takes to pour a glass, instantly delivering a better bouquet, enhanced flavors and smoother finish.
The Skybar™ wine preservation system is a must-have for any lover of wine. It chills, pours and preserves wine all from a single system. Three individually-chilled chambers allows for up to three opened wine bottles to be enjoyed at the same time and at the ideal serving temperature. This system accommodates wine bottles between 750 milliliters and 1.5 liters. There are nine different temperature pre-selects for multiple wines and its vacuum technology preserves an open bottle of wine for up to ten days by removing the oxygen that normally oxidizes the wine. Dark and Stormy Death Punch Cocktail

This is Grace Parisi's take on the "Dark and Stormy," a classic rum and ginger beer drink. Floating in the punch bowl are round ice cubes made with lychee syrup and lychees stuffed with brandied cherries, which have an uncanny resemblance to eyeballs.
Contributed by Grace Parisi:
Dark and Stormy Death Punch
  • One 20-ounce can lychees in heavy syrup
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced peeled fresh ginger
  • 16 brandied cherries
  • 1/4 cup superfine sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 12 ounces dark rum
  • Three 12-ounce bottles ginger beer
  • Ice cubes
  1. In a small saucepan, bring the lychee syrup and ginger to a boil. Remove from the heat, cover and let steep for 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, stuff 16 lychees with brandied cherries. Set each lychee in the cup of a mini muffin pan or in an ice cube tray. Strain the lychee-ginger syrup and pour it over the lychees. Freeze until firm, at least 4 hours.
  3. Meanwhile, in a pitcher, stir the sugar into the lime juice until dissolved. Add the rum and refrigerate until chilled, about 1 hour.
  4. Unmold the lychee ice cubes into a small punch bowl. Pour in the lime-rum mixture. Add the ginger beer, stir gently and serve in ice-filled glasses.
The lychee ice cubes can be frozen for up to 1 week.

Crystal and her daughter Sayla

Join Special Emcee for the event and Weather Channel Meteorologist Crystal Egger as she shares her story:

"For reasons I may never know, my daughter, Sayla Rae flew into this world exactly three months ahead of her due date, weighing a whopping 1 lb 14 ounces.  The most exciting time of my life turned upside down in an instant.  She went on to spend 3 agonizing months covered with tubes inside a lonely incubator in the NICU.  Now, at age 3, she is healthy, energetic, smart, and absolutely perfect.  She will forever be my miracle baby and proof that angels are everywhere!"

Weather Channel Meteorologist
Crystal Egger
"I am thrilled to be involved with the  March of Dimes, an organization close to my heart.  I look forward to sharing Sayla's inspirational story, raising awareness about prematurity and providing hope to other preemie families."
