Review: Smryna Wine Stroll 2011

Smyrna Wine Stroll 2011 Review:
Smyrna Wine Stroll 2011

There were 400 patrons that took part in this years stroll and Renee Rowe is hoping to raise close to $5,000 - as she did in 2010 for the charity.  Final numbers are still a few weeks away! Tom Regeski on Sax, & the Bill Van Dyke Trio were on hand to offer entertainment, while sampling wine and food.  The wine stroll provided 12 Tables offering between 4-6 wines, both red and white-we had plenty of options!
Smyrna Market Village

Below are our favorites of the afternoon.  It was difficult to narrow down which of the top reds and whites we enjoyed.  We have chosen one single word to describe the wine from our point of view.  Below are the 3 Whites and 3 Reds we have chosen, with their descriptions, photo and our final "take" on the wine from our point of view.

Whites:
Ricossa Antica Casa Gavi DOCG
Produced from Cortese grape grown in SE Peidmont Hills, this pale straw yellow wine displays green apple aromas with vanilla flavors and a certain minerality.  This a great summer white wine that should be served chilled for that refreshing and crisp taste!  This can be paired with lots of different cheeses.  Final Take: CRISP

Seis Circles Blanco: Grown on the Pyrenees, in high altitude, this white is a refreshing option for Chard and Sauv Blanc drinkers.  Aromas of intense orange blossom, green pear and yellow apple. Flavors of white peach, lemon oil and slight apricot. A great wine to pair with seared fish and pesto dishes! Final Take: INVIGORATING

Ferraton Cotes du Rhone Samorens Rose: Grenache 75%, Syrah, Cinsault. This is a French Wine.  Intense and bright rose color. Aromas of red berries, raspberry and red currant.  Fresh and lively. Final Take: VITALIZING

Reds:Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta: Intense and complex.  Aromas of spices, black and red fruit, herbs.  Elegant balance with velvety and well defined tannins.  Open and let breathe for a couple of hours or decant for a minimum of 1 hour.  Food pairing with lamb, game and entrecote fillet.  Dessert: Cocoa rich.  This wine received 93 points from Wine Spectator and 93 points from Wine Enthusiast.  Final Take: EXQUISITE

Marietta Cellars Old Vine Red Lot 54: Wine makers: Chris & Scot Bilbro bring loads of fruit layers at the core of the wine. The bright aromatics are pure expressions of red and black berries with nice peppery spice, earth, and mild oak in the background. The mouth-feel is rich and concentrated with great weight and structure.  Final Take: PARADISE

 Lust: **FAVORITE OF THE DAY**
This wine stood out as being the most structured Zinfandel while still displaying a ton of the ripe berry and spice characters we all expect from a Zinfandel. Without hesitation this lot was put into new 3 year air dried American oak barrels purchased especially for this program. After being aged 22 months we blended with a little bit of Petite Sirah to increase the already great depth, color, and tannin structure. Ready to drink now, but with the hefty amount of tannin this wine could easily be set down for a few years.  The wine comprises of an abundant amount of sweet vanilla and black berries on the nose. Rich, juicy feel with well balanced tannin structure.

This Zinfandel has a soft texture and decadent mouth-feel, and the flavors are of creme de cassis, caramel cream, melted milk chocolate, tangerine zest, and cinnamon-spiced gingerbread
